Another nice fade and weathering job. The only thing that gets old is the diesel itself. Your choice of prototypes really shows off your talents for kitbashing, painting and weathering.

Thanks guys! I am pretty happy with how it turned out. The over all dusting is a bit over done to me, but that is what I get for not testing the airbrush before pointing it at the model. Oh well, live-n-learn. I think it will be a great companion to run with the 2 SD10s I have on the bench right now.

The dusting looks great, yes you should test off model first, but I think you got lucky in this instance, It is good to have some grime above rails.

if you want to clean the windows I take a small queue tip dipped in rubbing alcohol and clean just the windows.

yep, will be doing that here soon. I still had a couple of things to finish off. Once hey are complete, I'll do those final little things. Thanks for the tip, however.

Turned out great. I like the weathering, especially the fuel spill on the tank. Is that a Walthers ribside caboose in your sig pic?

Thanks Mayor. Yep, that is indeed a Walthers rib side bwc in my sig pic. I need to get some "finished" photos now that I have cleaned the windows and replaced the chains on the had rails.

Nice work Bob, I think the weathering looks just about right for the MILW! Love the single fuel tank.

Looking back at this thread, I am very unhappy with the photo quality. I'll have to get the new camera and tripod out to see if I can't get some good clear photos. These really do not do this unit justice.

Is that a PK2 SD7 ? I had two milw road PK2's . I sold them now what I have is a rail power shell and frame only railpower on their early release left of the number boards , later they added some with horrid square corners. I looked through all I have and found two old SD40-2 shell and frames that had the 1 foot to wide hood that were designed to fit athearn drives . The cab top pops off and the number boards are perfect . All I need to do is cut out the number boards leaving enough plastic around them like a rectangle shape with the number board gasket in tact then cut out the shell to fit the new number boards and glue them in place . Basically I need to cut through the RPP shell to fit the new sections , I've done it before on some other units that didn't have number boards.
The difficult part will be assembling the details associates ladders . Nice thing is the frame has the one tank off just file off the frame part left if one needs two tanks .
I was just going to use the one piece decals but I like number boards with the gasket .
Your model turned out GREAT.

The Athearn BB SD40-2 has a correct width hood, not the "wide hood" from the older locos. If I remember right the SD40-2 was actually the first loco they released with the correct scale width hood.

Nice looking engine Bob! I agree with you that the dusting is a bit overdone but it didn't ruin the model. I really like the trucks.

It might be the model from North American. They brought out a wide body SD-40-2 just before the Athearn and GSB models came out. I think they did a tunnel motor as well. Quickly went away after the others came out with scale hood SD-40-2's. John The Athearn BB SD40-2 has a correct width hood, not the "wide hood" from the older locos. If I remember right the SD40-2 was actually the first loco they released with the correct scale width hood.
