Before I start work on my Alco RS-11 I decided to finish the projected I started over a year ago. It is Wheeling and Lake Erie 102 GP35, it will have a QSI revolution sound board, because at the time nobody else did sound and 6 light functions (operational front and rear ditch lights). The loco is based of a Athearn RTR GP35 DRGW (why not the real WLE uses DRGW, OK not for this loco it was a SOU/NS loco). I still have a lot to do, patch up the paint, add the handrails back on, add the hoses, horn, bell firecracker and the lift bars. I used a cannon HH short kit to make the high hood, and white putty to fill any gaps. I replaced the Bloomberg trucks with the AAR roller trucks (just swap the plastic sides). here is the real one www.wle.railfan.net/roster/WLE102.jpg accept I will not have leaves stuck to the grill on mine. Yep, WLE has a whole bunch of them, I think about 9 or 10.

Those GP-35s never made it to NS livery. Most of them were still in SRR paint. I've got a ton of videos I shot at Brewster Yards & Shops of these units.

well, my GP35 will not be complete soon, I installed the sound decoder tonight, it was the second one I have had, the first had a faulty connection. It was all working, sound, lights including front and rear lights, during my extended test run the sound stopped and smoke appeared instead. it still runs forward and back, with ditch lights and smokes. I cannot see on the board where the smoke is coming from. I will try to get this repaired under the 2 year unconditional warranty.
I have to use QSI, they are the only ones with sound + 6 light functions. It did how ever when it was working sound awesome, i was impressed.
shipped the faulty decoder back to QSI today.

NS repainted several of the ex-SOU GP35s before the W&LE got them: 2654, 2657, 2660, 2661, 2664, 2695, 2703, 2705, 2708, 2710, and 2712 to name a few. Here is a shot of the 2703, back in 2001. I forgot about the 800 pixel wide limit... Here is a link instead: www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=2007716Attachments:
