Today my goal is to get a set of SD40 trucks all plumbed up with air lines. These would be the standard low mount. I'll solder brackets to the lines and then pin them into the side frame.

Hey I would like to see how that is done as I have a set that I am going to starting pretty quick here........Did you do that same technique on the SD45-2 trucks?

The SD40 side frames I am working on are the low mount style so the brake lines are mounted differently. I can tell you right now it is tedious. Also a bit nerve wracking since I am working with heat near the delrin :-).
I'll post my technique after I perfect it. The first one was rough, but looks good. I am sure by the time I get to the last one I will be more comfortable with my technique.

Take a look at my web site www.6axlepwr.com/. look at the STUFF page and you will see a heading called "Plumbing Brake Cylinder Air Lines. This is just the start of this page. I'll add some steps as I get to the next side frame. Brian

Randy,
Pay attention to each individual side. The routing is not the same on each one. I am just starting to see that. Slight differences on each side frame.

OK, I got a detailed description of how I build the brake line and brackets. I have two more side frames to do and will add photos of those when I finish.

Brian is one of the folks that inspired me to return to the hobby after a 12 year layoff. Thanks Brian.

Thanks, I appreciate teh kind words.
I'll have some updates to the site later on today. I'll be finishing up the last side frame this morning and I need to change some of the wording on one part of the building process and add a few remarks I found from my prototype research on building these.

OK, I have finished this part of the article. All side frames are done and posted.
Now I need to paint them.
When I finally get to an HT-C frame, I will show all how I bend and secure them as well. I basically use the same bracket methodology.

Thomas Dressler was a big influence on my modeling. Yes, he has faded from the forefront, I wonder if he is still around?
