Hey guys, Here are a few photos of one of my most recently completed locomotives, CNW #950, a non-dynamic EMD SD45. CNW ordered 60 of these units in the late 1960's, all without dynamics. I chose 950 because she was one of three non-dynamic SD45's that where still on the roster in 1995, the other two being 903 and 954. Base model is a P2K SD45 with the dynamics cut out and a scratch built non-dyno hatch. Weathered to look as she did in the early 1990's. Equipped with working headlights and strobe! Thanks for looking!

Great job Andrew, that is a seriously good looking engine, I too love the smiley face on the gong, seen it so many times in real life and it brings the model to life!!

I'm just about to start a model of this very locomotive (#950, although with a Kato model), so it's nice to see some inspiration! Was the smiley there in real life?

Thanks for the nice comments. The smiley face was there in real life and I carefully painted it on. These are such neat locomotives that I had to have at least one! I too saw the smiley face on so many CNW locomotives in real life, and when I saw it on the prototype 950 I had to add it! Before too long I plan to build a mate for her, CNW 954.

Andrew that is sweet looking. I also liked the smiley face on the gong. I modeled the MRL 360 which is a ex Suzy Q unit that someone put a smiley face on using the class lights as eyes just like on the prototype. Great job! Glenn

I love dynamics, but I really like theses loco's for some reason. You have done an excelent job and the weathering is great! I think there is one thing wrong though and it should be easy to fix. Your turbo exhaust hatch is on backwards It's still and awesome model though!

Hey guys, Thanks for all the nice comments, good to hear that I have inspired so many of you to build one of these for yourself! @ deez, the turbo hatch is on correctly. When I saw a photo of one of them posted on this board back a couple months ago I just had to build one, just awesome looking models!

I think this is the first non-dynamic SD45 I've seen and it's a good one. Nice work.

Nice work! I remember chasing the SD45's around 1993 after I got my drivers license and CNW reactivated them during a power shortage, and this was also the time when the new Dash 9's were showing up where you could always count on finding a variety of leased power, which also included ex-ATSF C30-7's and GECX Super 7's.
