Well I installed ditch lights in my custom D9-40C # 8853. I used a NCE D13SRJ decoder, and wired the ditch light bulbs (1.5v miniatronics) through 470 ohm resistors to the function 3 and 4 outputs on the RTR DCC board. I went by the article in the Feb. 2008 issue of model RR, but the problem is when I put the loco in forward and the front lights come on, the ditch lights die. Is there a way to map around this or will it do it no matter what?

So when I put the engine in reverse (no rear headlights attached) the ditch lights function just fine. When I go to put them in forward (headlights attached) they shut off. They also do stay on when I advance the throttle.

Ok I need some serious help with this...I did it exactly the way it said in the model railroader magazine. I've tried every CV that deals with the functions and I still can't get it.

Everything is wired correctly. This is what I programmed... CV 36 value of 12....CV 122 value 56....CV 123 value of 60. I tried to change around CV 120 by making it 2, but all this did was make the headlight come on in reverse and the ditch lights come on in forward.

I just wired the front headlight to the rear headlight position then changed it to work only in forward. Works perfectly. It was some programming issue but who cares as long as it works.
