Well I have tried the manuals way of programming the adress in this thing and I havent been able to do it. I tried both the short and long address way of doing it. Every time I try to change the adress it changes something because the loco wont respond to address 3 or the address I tried to program. I would even be ok with the short adress, which is what CV1 is for as far as I know. I am using an MRC Prodigy Wireless System and everything else I programed has worked just fine. Any help?

i have a tsunami tsu 1000 in an athearn sd 50, the dcc sysytem i use is just the basic NCE powercab no booster and using standard programming mode, have no issue with programming addresses. there is 2 cvs that handle the extended address (cv 17, 18) when setting the extended address the dcc system uses a specific protocol to set the values. The diesel technical guide explains how this is done. maybe a decoder reset will possible fix the issue. set cv 8 to 8 and then cycle the track power off then on. the decoder should flash the lights 16 times to indicate a sucessful reset. Hope this helps

I can program every CV on the program track or on the main just fine with the exception of an address. I did a reset on the decoder after each attempt to program a new address which reset everything fine and the loco responded to address 3 again. Any method I have tried to program a new adress left me with no throttle response to any address. I have two tsunamis that I have this problem with and I am pretty sure its not a decoder issue. Its either user error or my MRC Prodigy system doesnt like to program adresses in these things or idk what.

I would recommend having someone that has a powered program track set the addresses for you. I tried programming on the main and struggled with it until I got the powered program track.

i used the program track to program not programming on the main. no issues to date with tsunami/nce powercab combination.

I had issues with a Stewart U25B that came with a Tsunami doing the same thing when using Digitraz. Evidently, as someone stated above, its needs a stringer signal to program the address. SoundTraxx sells a PTB-100 (Programming Track Booster) that cures the problem. You can leave it hooked up even with other maker's decoders. Seels for about 60 dollars

One other thing you might try is programming the address on the main. You program it like any other CV, using Ops mode, and it should take the address then, as there will be plenty of power to fill the capacitors and let the signal through.
One note of caution, though, make sure there are no other locomotives on the tracks, otherwise you will be reprogramming their addresses as well! (I have successfully reprogrammed 17 other locomotives at the same time during an operation session at the club!) Took us a while to figure that out, and a while longer to fix it. Not fun! You might give that a try before shelling out more money for a programming track booster.

Thanks for the help guys. After a few emails to the Soundtraxx people I think I have figured out the problem. As mentioned before, the address I am trying to program in ops mode is locked because it is use at the moment and my MRC system requires the use of a programming track booster to properly program addresses on the program track... I looked into the link provided for the CV 17 and 18 calculator, im gonna try and run through that process and see if I can get anywhere. If not, I spose ill shell out the cash for the booster. oh well...
