Figured I'd share a few photos of my SD10. An old one, probably built about 6 or so years ago from a Proto SD7. Oddly enough this model started out as a decorated Milwaukee 2210 which in real life actually became SD10 #549.
Hopefully the pictures work (first try).

Thanks guys. Sorry about the huge picture, I'm still trying to figure out how to do pictures on here. Looks like I need to host them somewhere (and do some editing on size)

Nice Mike! I'm doing 3 SD10s right now myself! I put a build thread in the -2 era forum since they were rebuilt in the early '70s. I too am using the P2K SD7 as a starting point. I did an SD10 about 20 years ago using an Athearn BB SD9, which I still have. Doesn't compare at all to the P2K shell!

I’m doing my best to follow along with the SD10 article written by Jim Volhard in the October 2008 Model Railroader.
So far - so good. And, tonight I searched the posts for SD10 exchanges and found at least two recent posts – at least my questions will be timely and I now have more reference material.
My immediate concern with the SD10 project is Jim Volhard’s instructions regarding the modification of the Horst filter. He states on page 68 “…it needs some extra work for this project. Start by narrowing the center filter body to a scale 6” before attaching the weather hoods. You can square the body using a mill file and replace the cast-on plate filter with a similar sized sheet of styrene to improve the appearance of the finished hood, as shown in fig 6.”
I have the correct Detail Associate’s part and while it does need to be cleaned up I don’t understand why I should remove the plate filter detail [looks reasonably good to me] or how to address the instructions to reduce to a scale 6”.
I’m hopeful that one of the projects have dealt with this issue and can correctly advise me how to proceed.
Thanks
Dave

Thanks for the clarification.
I expect to be back with additional questions as the project progresses.
