This is a project I wanted to do for a long time and im really excited about starting it. I began looking for a PRR unit as a starting point, I found an Atlas unit factory painted in the correct number 2437, talk about luck. The reason I like this unit so much is because I model the year 1973. Paint jobs such as this were pretty much gone by the end of 1971, but the proto photo was taken 12/73. Its interesting to note that the unit is not black. PC people have debated the blackness of Brunswick green for years. looking at the shell by its self and it looks black, but put it next to something tht really is black and you can tell its green. one thing I have always hated is those huge tabs behind the step wells for mounting handrails. I decided they wernt needed so I cut them off. P

After painting so many Pennsy units when I was in the business, we found that once weathered they looked like black. Back in the 70s I saw some former Pennsy units at Mingo Jct and they all looked black.

I generally like the Atlas Brunswick green, but on some older runs I feel its too green.
A couple older Pennsy modelers I know once told me the proper way to make brunswick green was to get a Jar of Dark Forest Green and Black, place the green bottle on top of the black one, and let it sit overnight. =)
