We can post in this section on projects we have for the future right? I just wanted to write this up, probably to motivate me back to bashing. I've been busy with other stuff lately and this board can be such a motivator. Thanks for that! As I said in an earlier post, I had looked up some magazine articles on BN kitbashes. I was inspired when some guys here told me they did gp39-2s based on an article. I found one on that ( 5 different phases ), 2 B units, the B32-8 from a rail power C32-8 shell and a U30 artlcle (just as a guide for the U33 I have). I just got the shell for the B32. Things like cutting down the shell to size are intimidating for me, but like on the gp39e, I'll get through it. I just don't want to ruin the shell. It was $32 and I didn't see it at the only LHS, who has these, and sometimes sells them for less. I also found a WAY better U33/C30-7 shell, Athearn. I just happened to have a BB U30 phase 1 with the wrong louvers on the end. This one looks much nicer. It's gonna need some scratch treatment though... pic for the heck of it:

I'm building one of those too. The B32-8 that is. I've got it cut down to length and mounted to a piece of 1/2"aluminum(milled down to fit underneath like the frame). Most of my build's I mill a piece to fit under. The aluminum keep's everything square to the world while building. The end pilot's are about 4.5 INCH'S thick so I bought a frame sill from soo-much-stuff ebay. Atlas #900207 It's pretty close for #5498 and #5499. The entire sill won't be used, just the end's and whatever else I can graft in. I also picked up the mu hose's, cut lever's and grab's to go with it. I'm going to use DW SF202 sand filler's And DA GR2722 grille's. Frame is bb Athearn with it milled to accept an Atlas fuel tank. The article in Diesel Era is a big help. Karl

ya, I never thought to look at pilot thickness until I read Brian Banna's site; the article where he talks about the SD38. He pointed several things out in that article that I look at on other models.
But, I'm not fixing that, not even on this model, because I'm using Smokey Valley Stanchions, which I like, but are also too large. So, I'm not gonna knock myself out with the pilots. I will put in the DA grill set. I did 2 -9s like that and those are really nice.
Do you have yours in a post here Karl?

Just a thought here, but the Athearn U33 shells are just a bit wide. If you can find one on Ebay, I would suggest a Atlas U33 shell. It would be a closer match to the RPP shell. I have two of the C32-8 shells from RPP one of which I am planning on constructing one of these BN units myself, but for my personal road. After all GE just has the last two sitting in Erie doing nothing.... Gary
