I've always wanted to start a KCS SD40X,and ive always had the parts to start until i looked in my closet. So all u all know ,the SD40X was the SD50 prototype built on a SD40-2 frame.KCS still owns all of the original SD40Xs. I chose #700 cause it still has the mars light on it,but it doesn't work any more. I know the SD40X has quite a few of different doors on it from the SD50,but i'm not big on some details. I only took out the nessecary details that i think makes the unit stand out. Like it has an older blower housing, the mars light, etc. So i started out with a SD40-2 frame and trucks, and a P2K SD50 shell, and so far i like how its coming out. I'll have pics up by this weekend. www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=257888/

I once pondered about building an SD40X/SD50S. If I was to do it, I'd take an Athearn GP50, SD50 and SD40-2, and then construct the necessary carbody from the parts.
