These are factory painted units that I thought I'd just add details to and be done. -ya right,... This is the last time I'll do that. From now on, even if it's the road I want, I'm stripping and painting. Anyway, I like the unusual roof antennas, so I picked these. These numbers just happened to have an assortment. these have been 'straightened up' since these pics. I also want to start doing units that have the flat RC antennas one on each side of the cab... anyway, trying to fill in holes from the mu cables ect. that come off and have to be painted over kinda defeats the purpose... oh, I didn't install the mu cables on the sd40-2 below, I got the unit that way, nice job that guy did. the paint on the top of the cab was ruined from an older attempt at this project. sd40-2 gp38-2

I cut the frame for the snoot unit. I've been using a dremel with cutting wheels/gringing wheels to do that. I just figured out what I need for that job is a grinder. That would make that job so much easier and quicker, saving me from burning out my dremel, which is what happened. (black & decker knockoff) I have a quite a few frames to cut and don't seem to want to pass up doing this now even on simple jobs where I start out just putting on mu cables and roof details. So, the grinder sounds like a good move. I don't have a mill. I wonder how many of us do? I can't justify that cost as I don't do this professionally. oh, the gp38-2 here still has the class lights intact! I'm gonna wait to do the anti-climber/ditch lights on this unit until I get some of these other projects done.

Looks like you're off to a good start there, diesel! Think the Santa Fe could have put any more crap on the roof...I think they beat the Espee! Keep us posted

I just popped into this thread as this is one of the GP38-2s I have on the bench now and realized there's only one shot of it. This isn't a big job, it slowed up because I needed to bend new handrails for the front to accommodate the anticlimber (blah) and paint the top of the cab to match the prototype. THEN I broke the frame! I cracked right behind the rear bolster so I put it back together with Walther's Goo (yeah I know...) The plastic frame rail also helps a bit to keep it together. I'm going to be very busy for the next few weeks so for now this is it.
