Here are a few photos of a Proto 2000 E9 I built a couple of years ago. The red and yellow colors of the FEC are great, but I always liked the plain blue with the yellow wings on the front from the early 60's. The decals on the 1034 in the photos are from a decades old set from walthers or something. Microscale has come out with these in the last year and i'm working on the 1035 with thoes new decals. Here is a photo of it, still needing a clear-coat, headlights, and a few other details... I know the picture is a little blurry, I'll try to post some better ones when it's finished.

I really enjoyed looking at your work. This is one train I'm going to model. The FEC strike version locals were definitely pike sized! That Life Like E8A wears the blue well.

I really never paid much attention to the FEC, really nice, but for some reason I would have thought a railroad being located in the tropic region would have put more flare into it's paint jobs to promote excitement or pizzaz to the public to say ride our trains or will feed you to the gators. They had quite an attractive paint scheme early on, this looks to be the later scheme the units wore in the 1960's when everyone was simplifying paint jobs to save money.

Thanks for the compliments! Funny you mention the "pike-sized" passenger trains. I actually made the two FEC passenger cars for the "Pike Sized Passenger Train" contest that was in Model Railroader Magazine a few years ago. It was the first time I ever worked on passenger equipment, and they turned out OK (I'll try to post some photos of them under the rolling stock page). Unfortunately, I never did enter them into the contest because I could not find any prototype photos to use, and they took longer to build than I thought they would (their STILL not finished). FEC defiantly had the perfect trains though, 1 E9 and two or three passenger cars made up the whole train. As for the colors on the FEC. They did have an amazing color scheme on their diesels in the 40's and 50's. The bright red and yellow colors, as well as their round "shield" emblem on the front with the palm trees defiantly captured feel of the area well. The boring blue wasn't applied until the early 60's and by then most of the passenger service was gone on the FEC.
