Hey Guys, Well, I finally got one of my SD40T-2's done...I only have about a dozen to go! Anyway, this model is from the Special Run that Athearn did for the Rio Grande Modeling and Historical Society, painted and lettered but not numbered. So, after much research I decided to model DRGW 5356 as it appeared in the early 1990's. My options where limited as I could only chose numbers 5341-5370. The model needed cut-levers, correct plow, horn (P3), antenna, eye bolts, MU's, MU boxes, drop steps and a lot more. I'm sure any of you that are Grande fans can point out some of the other things I added. I did a few other things to make this a true "Tunnel Motor"!

Nicely done. I like the light weathering, it brings out the details.

Thanks for the comments! The baked dynamics really add a touch of realism to a DRGW model.

Excellent work on that! I always liked the Rio Grande colors. There is some great looking stuff on your website too! Can't wait to see more.

Thanks for the comments, guys!
@ sarge - I'll work on a parts list and email it to you, might take me a few days, been busy!
@ john - I removed the tower entirely, the rear truck is not powered, however, it is still used as a power pick-up.

Ah yes, the old semi-lobotomy trick. It's not a dummy, just half dumb...... <;-) John @ john - I removed the tower entirely, the rear truck is not powered, however, it is still used as a power pick-up.

Yep, just half dumb! The 40T-2 I'm working on right now has many upgraded see-thru features over this one, pics to come soon. A Tunnel Motor just isn't a Tunnel Motor if you can't see through it!

I was wondering why this tunnel motor looks so much more realistic than all the others... The fact that I can see through it clears it up. Please, no more DRGW... It makes me want to switch my modeling focus... Good stuff!!!!!

SWEET eye-candy! I have one of the DRGW Historical releases also, and want to number it, but am half-considering leaving it as is.....un-numbered, for collector value. But, knowing me, it'll end up getting numbered and weathered anyway; I'm not the kind of person to "collect" and not "play" .... Rick

I figured by the time it's actually worth more than I paid for it I'll be too old to care! lol And I agree with you, I like to "play" not "collect models!
The RGMHS run is also incorrect, since the model has latched radiator access doors, the only prototype orders to have these was numbers 5374-5413, however, other detail differences only allow for modeling of road numbers up to 5373, so you're stuck either way, that's why I just went ahead and modeled one of the earlier units.
