I wonder why they put the dynamics in the front?

That is kick butt Sammy....
Randy, from what I heard it was the keep from overheating due to the placement of dynamics normally over the engine

I wonder why they put the dynamics in the front? To reduce the amount of heat over the engine.

Thanks a bunch for the compliments, guys!
Scott is correct regarding the relocation of the dyno brake grids. After the ATSF built the first SD45-2B #5510, they must have realized that all the empty space in the new front hood could be put to good use by putting the dyno brakes up there.
I'm not a mechanical engineer by any stretch of the imagination, but I bet it probably helped tractive effort with evening out the weight distribution too.

Awesome looking unit...every ATSF model railroad needs a few of those! The BN and SOO SD40-2B's are the same way with the dynamics up front...just cool looking! Great Job!

That turned out really nice. I like B-units, especially the modern ones.
I spy 5512 in the background...any chance we can get shots of that one? I'm slowly working my way towards building an SD45B like that. How many "B"'s are in your fleet?

That unit really looks sweet in person too. I hope it finds its way to Wichita in a few weeks!
