Hi all, Hmmm...I have an interesting prototype I am looking at building. An SD89MAC, the predecessor to the SD70ACe. Only one was ever built, EMD 92, and I have no idea what ever happened to the unit, but it looks like it could be built/modified from a Kato SD90MAC, one of which should be heading my way. Here are some pictures of the SD89MAC. www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1419010www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1404186www.railpictures.net/showphotos.php?locomotive=EMD%20SD89MAC One thing I see as being a significant problem is that the unit appears to be equipped with dual 60" radiator fans instead of the usual triple 48" setup. Any ideas what could be used for modeling this? Perhaps there is something from the military modeling areas that would work, but right now, I don't know what or where to look for such things. The Details Assoc. #229-2007 is available, but it is a 52" dynamic fan for SD60's, but it may be as close as I can get. if we could find something from another scale, that might be a good way to go also. Again, I don't know what is out there. The radiator section looks like it could be modified without too much of a problem, other than that, redoing the roof over the engine doors would need to be done, and maybe some work around the inverter boxes also. I have looked around for photos, and from what I see, the kitbash would be fairly extensive. The more I have looked at it, the more involved it gets to get the right body on the unit. I'm putting this one on hold for right now, but thanks for the photos and we'll see what ends up happening. Too many other projects actually going right now to even think about starting this one!

I've been looking for two OMI #9218 52" fans. I almost had several on eBay last year but someone outbid me at the last second.
I want to build an SD90MAC-H2 and I've been waiting for the Athearn SD70ACe to come out for the cab. I suppose I'll pick up a couple of Athearn fans too.
I plan as a base an undec RPP shell that has the correct exhaust and hood bevel but will need many changes, especially including the rear of the locomotive and the grill layout which is very different on the latter model. Doors/hatches along both sides too.
To the poster who built the CP MAC-H2, can you post some photos?
Thanks.

I might do an SD90MAC-HII in HO scale looks interesting and it fits in my time period.

The difference between the 90MAC and the SD89MAC is mainly in the vents and radiator sections. Overall, they look similar, and ride on the same frame and trucks, they just have a different engine in one than the other. My thoughts are to modify the radiator and see what it will take to rework the section around the inverter boxes behind the cab on the conductors side, Like I said, it'll be fairly extensive, so I'm not in a hurry on this one.
