While I did not build this model myself (John Bezuyen did for me), I wanted to share it with everybody that is a fan of the HIGH-HOOD and Southern Railway. Here she is courtsey of Southern Tier Models. Southern GP35 #2695L

John did a very nice job on the GP, Matt, but I'm sure you could do it just as well (or maybe even better!)
I noticed that the "F" (front of the locomotive) is on the short hood end. The SOURY probably had some they ran with the short hood as the front, but I'm not sure about the GP35's. Maybe someone else knows better, eh?

From what I can find Southern GP35's had the shorthood designated as the Front. Several pictures of 2695 has the F on the Short Hood end in all the photos I could find. Bob Harpe's model has the F in the same place. Confusing ain't it

What a beautiful Geep! Question, can anyone explain why Southern often put letters after the locomotive number? Did it have something to do with the unit's class designation or something?

The letters were computer check digits. They were arrived at by doing certain mathematical functions with the digits in the locomotive number.
I'm not sure why this was necessary unless it was to facilitate identification of non-SOU (leased) power.

I was never a huge high hood fan, but looking through all the pictures on this board is slowly making a believer out of me. We have 2 former SOU GP35's on Great Lakes Central here in Michigan. Unfortunantly both have been sitting out of service for over 2 years now. (sorry for the crappy camera quality on the second one)

Wow that blue and yellow looks pretty 1970's. Is the first unit army green? Nope, the first one is just black. They never got around to painting it. The second one is in Tisby's final paint scheme (introduced in the early 90's I think) until it became Great Lakes Central in 2005. The high hoods have remained untouched, but the 7 ex Ann Arbor GP35's are gradually being repainted into GLC blue. #385 wears a one of kind scheme, with 391 below wearing the now standard scheme, based loosely on the scheme worn by the 2 GATX GP38's currently leased.
