Call it modeler's block, or whatever, I have several project's I'm stalled out on. Here they are: The SD-40 needs a few decals before I spray the flat finish. The SD40-2 needs a few data decals also before I spray it with flat. On the M420, I have to pull the grabs back off because they will interfere with the nose stripes. I need handrail stanchions for the C-430. It takes special stanchions on the pilots, and nobody makes them. I have a set of Smokey Valley Stanchions & Railings for the NKP SD-9, but everytime I take them out I sit and look at them, then put them back in the package. These are all awaiting the Air Brush, (crappy weather)

I hit that wall every now and again. I walk away from the bench for a while and take another run at it later. I'm sure the heat you've got back there isn't helping.

Yeah, I totally agree. I've stopped doing much modeling for now, since my room I do all of my work on is so hot, that it's not worth it.
I've been working on my layout instead, in a cool basement. Much nicer!

My modeler's block usually kicks in when the projects seem overwhelming. Sometimes I have a tendency to think too much about an issue that needs solving (what to do first, is this step going to interfere with another step, etc.). For me, this means I need to sit back, maybe do a little reading or research in order to re-focus.

I think part of the problem is our economic situation, not knowing where we stand from one day to the next. I put my magnifiers on the other day to work on a locomotive and my brow started to sweat right away also. Just too hot.

Wel at least you have enough to pick from when you get that urge to do something again. My suggestion is to do something completely different than modeling diesels. DO some arm chair modeling ;D. That will get you going again or maybe that is to dangerous as well becuase it may just add to your project list .

I pretty much stopped modeling because I started building my Branch line in Proto87, got the wall cleats on and started to build some of the L-Girder construction, though I have to agree with Randy, just plain hot and knee surgery has me on the bookshelf now, and for all you HIGH Hooders the latest issue of "Diesel Era" magazine has a great spread on N&W SD40-2's Stan, take a look at the back page of the newest Diesel Era and you'll see where I got the inspiration for this model.

I have been on a lull mostly due to work being overwhelming. Now that things are slowing down I have reorganized my hobby room I have been doing a bunch of little house cleaning projects. I had a bunch of projects that needed cutlevers or new couplers or trucks just silly simple stuff. I also have been back to work on the SDP40...I should be posting some pictures this weekend!!
Now get back to WORK...when you feel like it!!

Its summer and most of us just have other things to preoccupy our time! I know I've not been in the basement hardly. Christian came over the other day and I went down for the first time In a long while. Between my health and the warm weather. Its just nice not to be inside all the time for me.
Don't feel bad Randy, there have been many times I've just sat and stared at a project because "it didn't hit me". I think we all get that.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I haven't gone stagnant, I've been working on an SD-35, GP38AC, GP-40, and an Athearn GP-35. I just haven't been a whirlwind like I was when I built that GP40X in 9 days.

Randy it sounds like you are pretty busy with all of those projects. I hate starting a project then having to wait on parts. That is what stalls me out. Glenn

I slowed down myself over the summer. Just to much going on with work and keeping up with the lawn. I might spend a hour in the shop 2 times a week, add a detail or two here and there to the bench full of projects I have going on. Geeze! I haven't even posted any progress on my projects I have listed here. Also, waiting for parts to be restocked from the mfg has helped slow things down also. But!!! I've been able to go to a couple of the local summer junk shows and pickup some great deals on engines for future projects!

I have had a half dozen locos waiting to be finished for several months and so I took a little loco break and built a couple of building for my layout. Once I completed two of them I could not wait to get back to the engines and I have finshed two (Ohio Central SD40-2 and Norfolk Southern C40-9) in last two weeks.
