We all know what a GP-40X is don't we? Of course, they were the pre-courser to the GP-50! But wait a minute! There was also a GP-40X in 1965!!! It was built on a GP-35 frame...get a load of those radiators!!! And it has 3 48 inch fans! Reminds me of my SD-40X build. Who's gonna build this one? EMD GP-40X DEMONSTRATOR #433A

Yeah, Stephen, I second THAT one! What about it, Randy, you up to it??? You know you got the mad skills to do it, big guy! Need some parts? Let us know and we can dig around in our collective scrap boxes and turn it into a community project ('course in that event, it has to move from place to place, posing for photos in Texas, Canada, etc.). ;D

On second thought Stephen, never mind. I've built so many EMDs I'm going bonkers here. I've still got over 20 projects going on and only one is an Alco. The River Run needs more Alcos...lol

The right side ;D Is it this unit went to IC/ICG 3075 after demonstrating? Yes, that was the one. My IC roster shows that the 3075 was wrecked in the mid-70's and rebuilt into a GP35, down-rated to 2500HP and re-numbered to ICG2550. As a side note to IC/ICG power, the IC/ICG7000, SD45, was originally EMD demo #4351 (I think this one was once painted in the EMD blue scheme) came to the IC in 1971. Does anyone know if this was the prototype for the SD45's?

Damian, are you planning to do any of the MidSouth units? If so, which ones?

That's as good a "fantasy" unit for the MidSouth as any! From what I recall, all they got from the IC was "frog-eyes and Farr Filters". They did have a couple of high hoods (GP9-#9004 and GP18-#1804) that I would LOVE to do!

Here's a drawing of the early GP40X Demonstrator if anyone wants to use it. Here is the later locomotive also called a GP40X.

Heres another shot of her rear. This was scanned from the October 1975 issue of Railroad Modeler. p.s. Notice the water sight glass? When was this added?

They must have added that later, it's not in the demonstator pic.
