Hello steve4.
The cab might not be as much of a nightmare in N scale. Athabasca Shops has a brass kit for a EMD standard cab, which might be able to be kitbashed just like the Cannon one was for this project. I haven't seen the kit anywhere on the internet to see if it can be done, but if you know anyone who's built one, maybe they can let you know.
