Smoky Valley, and later Train Station Products, made a conversion kit for doing this using Athearn switcher trucks and Athearn style GP frame. Both kits have been out of production for quite a while, and very tough to come by. They consist of a pair of rivits and bearing plates similar to those on the Athearn road trucks. The one set I found will be duplicated, and they will be used to model the Milwaukee RS-12's, which had AAR switcher trucks and were used initially for switching the Milwaukee's Minneapolis Station. Later they were considered the same as an S-12 and worked the yards and transfers out of St Paul.

Is it just me, or is the bottom front step missing in the first picture, and then mysteriously back in place in the second?

Sweet Job!! The extra work on the underframe really paid off, Very Nice! My only question is, where did they hide the air reservoirs??

The air reservoirs what hidden in the short hood. You can see on the roof of both engines a airline from long hood (air compressor) to the short hood.

I like the locomotive, it's really nice. But...You must resize those photos to 800 Pixels Wide or they will be removed. This is a standard rule on most Forums.

Wow, that is super helpful. One of my summer projects is a CN GP7, and they too were equipped with Flexicoils.

Were these units built this way or modified by CN?
I see dynamic brake housings... but no fans?
These are very nice models!

Hi Dave. CN didn't like to much the dynamic brake and on most all CN roster showing dynamic brake housings, they was disconnected and some have the fan removed like 4314. You can find a very good study on the CN GP9 in DIESEL ERA volume17,number2,march/april 2006 and in CN LINES volume 14,number2 part 1, volume14,number4 part 2 published in oct,07 and nov,08.

Just curious...how did you mount the motor inside with the bottom section of the fuel tank removed? I'm assuming you mounted it higher up inside and had to remove the giant weight for more clearance.
