I working on two EJ&E SD38-2's for a customer. My last two models for a while at least. I am not leaving the hobby, just taking a break while I search for new employment . A while back I mentioned how i removed paint from a Kato CSX SD40-2 by leaving all the plastic in a 91% iso dip. I tried this same method with the Kato SD38-2's. I left them in there for about a month. Well, this did not work out as well as I planned. The paint would not come off with the dremel brush like I used on the CSX unit. So I took the plastic out of the alcohol and let it dry. I figured I would resort to just grit blasting it. To my surprise, The alcohol softened the paint enough that the grit blasted just washed the paint off. Now you may think, of course the grit blaster will take the paint off. I'll tell you from experience. Untouched Kato paint is still a pain in the arse! The alcohol softened the paint enough that the grit blaster took it off like it was blowing away dust. I was VERY pleased at the results and I did not have to let the blaster sit on the same surface for very long so there is no distortion or removal of small details.
