This is a dash cam video taken on the UP line going to Janesville Wisconsin through No. Illinois January of 08'. This has been making the rounds on the internet, but, for those of you who havent seen it, here ya go! This also was about a 1/2 hour from my house, a very weird, illinois day of weather!!! Enjoy, and turn up the volume!!!

Watching your train get dumped is bad enough but seeing that tank car come out of the debris headed right at you is enough to make you soil your shorts! SantaFeDan

I thinking (and hoping) that what we see in the video were empties. I've never seen a loaded hopper bounce up and down like that! But, with an F3 you never know!

I remember this one from last year, but this isn't have as sccarey as that one clip you see on TV from these Tornado shows of the two 50' tankers getting hurled threw the air by that tornado... maybe someone can help out on this, but didn't they get tossed like something like 1/4 to 1/2 a mile? Now that is scarey........

which tornado lol! When I was with my old Fire dept. we went to Utica, IL. on what is called an interdivisional MABAS box alarm when the tornado hit there. They had loaded grain semis tossed, and if memory holds true, they still havent found a couple of them!

I saw this video a couple of weeks ago, and am blown away by it, my question would be, with the tornado that close to the front of the train, why didn't the engineer stop, trees had to have been blowing around in front of him, I also thought about, if the UP was on the up and up, they could keep track of the weather and could have stopped the train ahead of time, in my mind this derailment should've never happened, just wishful thinking here.

The problem was that the dispatcher was supposed to let the crew know about the tornado, but didn't. Reason for it, the tornado was jumping. the crew or the dispatcher didn't know where it was until it was on top of them. at that point there was nothing that could be done
