I am contemplating building an RP-E4U to go with one of my Atlas MP15DC's and am pretty sure I can get use Railflyer Frame for this by cutting out 3'. Anyone built or attempted one that can give any suggestions?

Michael, I have cut and spliced RFMP frames for two different EMD SD versions, lengthening one and shortening the other. Look at my ICRR SD40 thread for a couple of pics. It should work for you using the GP frame module. Make sure you measure twice and cut once!!

Michael, I have a picture of an RP4-ED that Tony Sissons built on my pbase site. He scratchbuilt the underframe from styrene and I have additional pictures of it in basic form. As soon as I get permission to post his photos, I will. I know it's not the same because it has dynamic brakes but you get the point. The frame will not be correct unless you add the "fishbelly" look to the frame. The ATSF Slug I built I modified the P2K chassis. But, now that I have a mill, I am going to be building underframes from scratch out of metal so I can detail the underframe. Since I'm coming out with the Topeka cabs, I wanted to be able to superdetail the underframe of those geeps, but the P2K Chassis will not allow it. Now, you could use a Kato GP35 frame and move the rear truck bolster back a foot. The GP35 is basically the same frame as a GP7/9/18 and 20 with the difference stated above. But unless you have a mill or access to one, the conversion will be difficult. Here are the pics of the ones I took of Tony Sissons. www.pbase.com/superfleet93/image/101955951I am also working on the drawings for an RP4-ED along with other slug drawings so you could use it as a guide. Underframe should not be to hard as will be adding to the RFMP frame rather than trying to remove a bunch of metal from someone elses (I hope)

Michael, The RFMP Frame is a later GP design and will not work for your application. I have heard that early GP frames may be coming from Railflyer, but it's a long way off. If you are starting with a P2K sill, the Railflyer chassis will not work either. The problem you will run into is the frame is tucked under the sidesill and on later GP's it isn't. You would be better off starting from scratch. Just my two cents. Here are the pics: Perry
