Guys,
Need some ideas. Been working on some projects and trying to apply CA to plastic on very small parts. What do you guys use as tools. Have tried end of tooth picks, pins but still dont get the control that i seek. Want to use the needle applicators but not sure if it is reusable or how to clean up. I use a needle applicator for the liquide glue that i got drom Micro Mark and love the results but having trouble with some kind of applicator for CA.

Wayne, I use needle applicators for applying CA, and find that they work well and are reusable a number of times. I use the applicators available from Mission Models, which are designed to fit directly onto a bottle of Zap-A-Gap, but they will also fit on a standard syringe. In order to keep mine clean, I first fill a syringe with 100% pure acetone (available at CVS or similar stores). Then I attach the needle tip to the CA container and get to work. Once I'm done, I remove the needle applicator and run acetone through it with the syringe. After that the tip is usually clean enough, but I let it sit in a jar of acetone for a little while just to be on the safe side. Using this method, I was able to use only two tips for an entire locomotive project, one tip has since been thrown out, but the other still has some life left in it. They do degrade over time as the Acetone will eat away at the plastic, but you still get your money's worth. If you don't use Zap-A-Gap I think you could also fill a syringe with CA, and leave it full as long as you store it in the refrigerator, but I haven't had to try that yet. Wayne, for small amounts of CA, I use a modified sewing needle as a pinpoint applicator. Using a cutoff disc, slice off the top part of the needle eye, forming a two-tined fork. Stick the point of the needle into a short piece of dowel (which becomes the applicator handle). Drop some CA on jar lid and use the applicator to pick up a small drop of CA and apply it to the part. Clean the applicator with acetone (or nail polish remover) after using.
