Hello Friends, I have doing some serious research on General Electrics ES23DC model. This unit has been frusturating at times, I am only going by on GE drawing, I 've got everything almost solve but the radiator area. The parts look good to start a kitbash. Has anyone else looked into doing one? By the way, my name is Bradley, I live in Grantsville Utah near the exWP and UP mainlines, been modeling since 1980, my last kistbash was over two years ago. Now all I need to do is find my tools!

Hi Bradley! Sounds like an interesting project! I haven't seen any good pics of what the unit is going to look like but my guess is the radiator section will look /be someting very similar to the GEVO models that GE already makes. I think the best starting point would probably be a T55 GEVo but since they are expensive, I think I would start with a Athearn AC4400 shell. Do you have a link to the drawings you are working from? I have only seen a very rough drawing of what it is going to look like. www.fasterfreightcleanerair.com/pdfs/Presentations/FFCACA2008/Pete%20Lawson.pdfI look forward to this build, should be a fun project! -Smoke

Smoke and others, That little pic of fastfrieghtcleanerair. . . is all I have to go by for now. I will probably use the AC4400 from Athearn for the radiators, then the hood will be like the ES44's, then the dynamic brake area will be a combo of the B40-8 and the latest ES44's then the cab and subbase will be like NS's C40-9's on a B40-8 frame and a modified C40-8 fuel tank. Anothe model too I have been looking into too. Go to the EMD board.

If you look at the GE PDF there is no mention of a six-axle version. The drawing shows a four-axle unit, which would be used by regional and short line RRs. Doesn't rule out six-axle units, but certainly limits them.

Project isn't dead yet. I have bought an Atlas B40-8, a KATO ES44AC shell and a dash nine fuel tank. Now to find my notes.
