Has anyone ever mixed ammonia in with solvaset or and other setting solution? I have an idea and want to see if it had any reactions with the solvaset or decals.

Ok guys. the reason I asked was because I use future for my gloss coat and was thinking if I were to mix ammonia and solvaset together the ammonia would "dissolve" the future and then there would be no air bubbles at all.
Just a thought that will go by the wayside. -Andrew

Some old freezer systems from cold storage warehouses used ammonia before freon was used, and it was deadly in case of leaks. Ammonia is not one of my favorite smells either, it brings back memories of the days before disposable diapers....Yuck!

I was told some years ago that Solvaset contained very dilute acetic acid as the agent that softened decal film. Not sure if I would even try to alter the chemistry of a product without better info. A better choice would be to try other products on the market. The Micro-Scale line has worked well for me, especially on the thin film decals. The Future acrylic may not react well to ammonia, as household ammonia is what is used to strip the stuff from a floor. It is possible the ammonia would also screw up all your hard work

I think future down with a couple drops of ammonia and spray it on that way. It makes for a really nice smooth finish. I was thinking that maybe what would happen was the ammonia would react with the future and soften the future and the solvaset would soften the decal. This would create a very good bond, and shouldn't have any air bubbles. -Andrew

Go for it, Andrew, sounds like an interesting technique, be sure you have plenty of ventilation....BTW, you ARE trying it on a sample piece first, right??
