Hello, Has anyone worked with these? I am attaching DP6054 to an RPP SD60 model. I looked at Athearn's and Proto's SD50's and SD60's to get the correct orientation of the end plate. There is an "F" on one plate and an "R" on the second plate. On the side with the stamped letters, there are also punched depressions which I also assume are for drilling mounting holes in the correct location for handrails, air hoses et al. In order to get the small rectangular hole on the right side when facing the loco, the plate is mounted with the stamped letters on the inside. I am not sure what the two square pieces are for. They have fold lines on them and on the lettered side of the plate, the small rectangular opening has a slight depressed ridge on the top and bottom edge of the hole. Any help gratefully appreciated. Ian

Railflyer tutorials are hard to find. Check out milepost15.wordpress.com. The site owner has posted several builds using Railflyer parts and has a couple of good photos in his locomotive builds.

The hole in the end sheet to the right of the coupler pocket is where the train air line comes through the pilot. There is also frequently another line that comes through that would be one of the mounts for the sand or other air lines, one of the group of three or four hoses on either side of the end sheet. That opening in the end sheet has a closure piece behind it, which is a piece of bent plate. I've never seen the Railflyer part in person, but I presume that the extra squares of material with the half-etched fold lines are intended to be formed and then soldered to the back side of the end sheet. I'm also guessing that the slight depressions on on the top and bottom of the end sheet opening are half-etched to provide a rabbet to receive the closure piece. The closure piece only attaches at the top and bottom, and is open on either side. Hopefully these pictures will load properly. They are from a gp38-2, but the opening is the same on just about any EMD loco. Hope that helps. Jim

Thanks for the two replies. Very helpful especially with the bent plate. Thanks again. Ian
