Has anyone ever tried to separate the Headlight and number boards on Atlas units? I don't want my number boards lit, only the headlight. It seems that the light always finds it way around the edges of the number boards and ruins the look.

I use a razor saw to cut the number boards away from the headlight, making three separate pieces. I paint the back side of the number board with paint to block any stray light.

I do exactly the same thing as Robert but I ditch the headlight casting and insert my own fiber optic/LED headlights.

These headlights are made from prewired 0402 or 0603 warm white LEDs, 1.5mm (0.06") diameter fiber optic rod and 1/32" 2:1 ratio heat shrink tubing. I got each of these in bulk on ebay for really cheap. The LED lead wires are bent so the LED faces outward away from the wires. In other words, when looking at the face of the LED the wires twist behind the face. Next, I cut a short length of shrink tubing and slip it over the LED. A 3/8" - 1/2" length of fiber optic rod is cut and inserted into the shrink tubing pressed against the LED face. When the assembly is held near a flame for a moment the tubing shrinks and secures the fiber optic rod to the LED. The outer face of the fiber optic rod is then polished. I originally tried using the candle to polish the fiber optic end but I distorted more of the rod than I wanted so I started using a Tropical Shine fingernail buffer to polish the end of the fiber optic rod instead.
