Just arrived on forums,,hello from Nevada! Can anyone tell me what size wire it is for handrails like on the athearn bluebox and where I can purchase it? Stanchions would help too! It would be cool to get some brass wire in like 10 inch lengths. I have been refurbishing some locomotives so I want to get a handle on this so I don't have to search endlessly on ebay for old handrails..

Welcome to the forum!! A good source for wire is Tichy. They stock various sizes of phosphor bronze from .008" to .040". My preference for HO handrail stock is .015" and I use .010" for forming grab irons/handholds. There are a few places you can find stanchion sets, such as Atlas and Athearn from toomuchstuff.com. The Smokey Valley brand got picked up by trainreadyproducts.com. Good luck, and keep us posted on your projects!!

I haven't used them yet, but I've wanted to try the etched stanchions from KV models.

I'm curious what the buying and fulfillment experience is like. Their website seems a little thrown together.

No, Ryan, I have not ordered from them yet, and it appears their site does not have on-line sales capability. I have seen positive and negative posts on FB about them, so I would suggest trying to contact them before placing an order. Hopefully, it will become a good resource.

I can highly recommend the folks at KV Models. Being in Australia their service was fast, efficient and very friendly. And their products are superb. For those of you closer to their home I can only suggest faster postage as an advantage and a lower rate. Very pleased customer.
