I like the paint schemes!!! the colors go very well together, [nitpick mode]The coupler boxes should be painted.[/nitpick mode]
Is there a story behind the different color of trucks on the GP40X's?

Wow, this is a busy site! Thanks for the comments & compliments everyone. You know, I totally forgot that these pics were pretty much right out of the paint booth, 18 months ago. So good catch on the coupler boxes! You'll be happy to know they have been painted, along with the addition of cut bars, mu hoses, and plows. I still need to add some detail to the Ex-Rock unit though. But not too much... The story on the ex-Rock 7672, is that it's the sister unit to the 7673. Both were purchased after the Rock was shutdown in 1980... but there was such a need for the new power, there was only time to paint the 7673 in the new debut "green image" scheme. SO the 7672 soldiers in a quick patchout for now. The silver trucks are kind of a whim! But I find that "whim" applies to railroads more often than not. The proper story is, the 7655 came with the experimental HT-B trucks, so these were highlighted in silver. Management thought the change was interesting, and decided to carry this idea to the debut Green Image scheme on 7673. (in reality I haven't decided which I like better, but shhh don't tell anyone. I take comfort in knowing that Chessie and Santa Fe both experimented with silver trucks... so there is prototype precedent). I design and print my own decals; I've done lots of decal work over the past few years. I am fortunate to have an ALPS printer but it's only a matter of time before that goes. I have an entire fleet of STC rolling stock and about a dozen more cars awaiting paint. I'd like to do a GE or two, and I would indeed like a 6-axle unit as well. Also a 1st-gen unit and an F-unit in an older scheme. But that will require time I don't have at the moment. Thanks again for the discussion... I need to spend a few hours here ust browsing and commenting back. Wish I found this site years ago! Well it didn't exist I see, but still... nice to be here finally.

Glenn, I think the silver truck color suits the green scheme very well, and has a precedent in other railroads, such as Georgia Pacific Paper Company railroads in and around Crossett, AR (F&P, AD&N, ALM, Gloster, etc.) before G&W assumed control of the lines. As I have heard many times before, "there is a prototype for everything" ;D And kudos on both the paint schemes, the lettering and the herald!

Glenn,
I have to say that is a kick butt paint scheme you have there, very believable, just on first glance I am more attracted to the blue & yellow scheme but the green and blue is working for me also, have you thought about silver fuel tank to go along with those silver trucks? I would also love to see updated pics with cut bars, MU hoses and plows!!

I appreciate the words on the FGC concept! Let me tell you, you do an excellent job on painting and decaling and I like what you are doing. I would love to read the back stories on your units. Funny how with a little imagination, they can develop a kind of "scale" life and history of their own. Keep up the good work and you are very well on your way to a very believable proto freelance railroad!!
Hank in AL Wishing he had GARD units that look as good as the Canards!
