Hi all;hope everyone's good.Been tossing around the idea of building the one of a kind Soo "GP 22",road number 2554.This previously was a GP9 of the same number.Apparently after a wreck they used a Southern Pacific cab and hood and mounted it on the geep frame.I can see that the radiator grills as well as the carbody air intake were modified considerably. Anyone try to model this?Would the new cab and hood fit on a say, proto or athearn frame and sill? Give me a shout if you can. This along with an ICG GP 26 been sitting on my idea desk for too long now...
Thanks, Anthony

I don't see why it shouldn't if your using scale width parts, cab ect,
Model railroader several decades back did an article on how to build that unit at that time.
Using athearn wide body components.
Don't remember the year either was 80's or 90's thinking more 80's issue of MR.
Hope this helps a little as I remember that oddball.

If you can find it, it's the Oct 1980 issue that has the article

Did you start on your GP22 project? I'm going to start by using an Atlas SD35 shell of course, cut down in the areas suggested by the author Rick Johnson. Then I was going to mount it on Walthers Mainline GP9 underframe. I'm also looking into the SD35 phase of ICGs SD20 program. And one last iron into the fire, IC / F & P GP28 9436 / 1805. Myself and IC 9436 are the same age!

Hi;right now still trying to decide on which frame and the parts I'll need.(Not to mention the time to do it!) I have in the shop as of now- PC RS3M 5477 NW C 420 415 NW C420 2578 And a few other goodies. They've been sitting so long it's ridiculous.Had been going along fine but had issues ordering parts.Nothing new there!!
I'll post some pics soon, and look forward to your work.Always interested in ICG rebuilds, and I know the SD20s have number of different origins.

And one last iron into the fire, IC / F & P GP28 9436 / 1805. Myself and IC 9436 are the same age! MrOGDEN BITT C.E.O / Flounder. The early GP28 should be easy. It's basically a non-turbo GP35 but with only 2 radiator fans vice 3 and the turbo exhaust stack replaced with 2 non-turbo ones. For a quick and dirty modeling article see the September 1984 issue of Model Railroader, pg:77 & 78.

SOO LINE 2554 (GP 9u) rebuild. I started my project recently with parts from Atlas. Kato was out of stock, then I was told that Athearn has retired their GP35 and its parts. For the underframe the prototype looks like a frame from the GP35 also, but just in case I have Mainline GP9 frame that I could use. All that I can't find is an Atlas cab and sub base. First things I done was to shorten the SD35s dynamic brake housing, fill in the center radiator fan and fill in behind the traction motor blower then drill out holes for the lift rings and grab irons and then i added another hole for the first cooling fan, after that I shortened the radiator housing and glued it back on. After I get the blemishes out from the first cuts I'll shorten the front of the long hood. Looks like this week I'll order a sub base and a 35 line cab and a dust bin hatch from Cannon. Still undecided on what underframe to use. Now for the ones reading this, what brand do you use for the following... Windshield Wipers (Spartan cab) Coupler cut levers (locomotive type). Sun shades? MU hoses?

As an N-Scaler, I can't help with the parts question, but I am looking forward to seeing photos of the progress. Cheers Steve
