Hello Forum,
I would like to introduce myself. My name is Chris Messer and I live in Derby, England. I am happily married and have two teenage kids who keep me active. I work as a manager for Bombardier's UK Train Maintenance business.
A busy work and family agenda give me precious little time for modeling and I tend to focus on loco and freight car detailing projects rather than trying to build a layout.
I have had an interest in North American railways for nearly 15 years, and from time to time have dabbled with the minor and weathering of HO US / Canadian outline locos and wagons. My main modeling subject is late 70s - mid 80s British outline in 4mm scale to P4 standards (the British equivalent of Proto 87). I have recently completed the detailing and weathering of several UK outline diesels and a small quantity of rolling stock to what I would call Proto standards.
What has always been at the back of my mind however is to have a serious go at some N American Diesel Detailing - so here I am . I have interests in several railroads, however my main interest has increasingly been with CP Rail (former Soo) US operations in the late 90s. I have always had a soft spot for small EMD Yard and Road switchers.
On my hit list at the moment in terms of locos are:
I am trying to get my head around the options that are available to produce the above locos - I know that off the shelf models are available in the right liveries for the GP38-2 (P2K / Athearn / Trainman) and MP15ACs (Genesis), but I want to start with undecorated models and add the correct detailing bits to produce prototypical models. If anyone can point me in the right direction on what detailing parts I need to collect to start these models I would be most grateful, I have been trawling the web for specific subjects that operated in the twin cities in the late 90s and will no doubt decide on specific 'victims' in the next day or so.
Anyway, I'll sign off for now and continue exploring this fantastic forum.
Cheers
Chris M

On my hit list at the moment in terms of locos are:
- A CP Rail or Soo GP38-2 in twin flags livery
- A pair of Soo Bandit / CP Rail MP15ACs
