Hi All,
Amongst my roster of N scale i have two Kato/Con Cor U.P. Turbine locos i have fitted with DCC .......... when i bought them i had heard of problems with the centre trucks going over turnouts and they had a tendancy to jump the tracks .... not sure on other makes of track but they sure dont like my Peco code 55, Obviously with little space for any weight in the truck to keep it on the rails its a problem.
I have thought of adding a piece of plasticard with a slight angle between the truck & chassis to provide tension and keep it on the rails .... has anyone managed to solve the jumping of the trucks another way ?

It sounds to me like the lateral movement of the inner trucks is restricted or binding. As I am not familiar with this particular loco's setup, all I can make is general comments. How is the truck attached? If it's with a screw, (like pilot and trailing trucks on steamers), maybe you can add a small spring between the truck and the bolster. If the pivot point rides in a slot maybe you can widen the slot. The main thing is that the trucks be able to float freely. You do have to be careful adding springs or any type of tension as that could cause the outer trucks to rise and make things worse. It might help if you can take some photos. Hi Modelmaker, Many thanks for the reply .... the inner trucks are not restricted being loose hanging down when you hold the loco in mid air, the truck having so much free play allows it to jump of the rails this is why i thought of a thin plastic plate to give a spring effect enough to hold the truck to the rails but still allow free pivoting movement. Took a couple of pics the first shows the lugs (circled) to retain the trucks hooking into the battery box moulding. and here with the battery box over the two lugs the trucks pivot at the four points indicated. This chassis is a second turbine i bought which had been repainted hence the grey on the battery box. Looking for a motor for it to allow me to coninue the conversion to DCC and resto in U.P. paint.
