Some assembly required...  The main component for my SDP40 showed up today, this being the Kato SD40. Now I just need to order a bunch of cannon and company parts and it will be off to the races. I plan on doing two of these units and painting them BSB. While I wait for my parts I will start on prepping the body and starting on the walkways. Wish me Luck!! Greg, if you haven't seen Brian Banna's site (6axlepwr.com), check out the part about building up carbody doors. Brian has set a standard of construction for us that is hard to beat.
Otherwise, this looks to be the beginning of one sweet build!!

That sight is one of the best I have seen anywhere on scratchbuilding. I think I am going to steal every single technique he has come up with. Thanks for the link and the words of encourgamnet from everyone I have my razor saw and Xacto knifes ready to go!

I still have a lot of fine tuning on the walkway including extending it on the firemans side but, not bad for an evenings worth of work! |

Tonight I made a few changes to the end and added a roof for the boiler room. I also started to take off the old kato fans, These will be replaced with Cannon and company fans.   |

Just for grins, here is one that I bashed in N scale using parts from a Kato SD40 and SD45. The rear hood end was made from an Atlas GP7 non dynamic hatch, the side grills are shortened and thinned Life Like GP18 parts, the doors on the extension were cut from a Kato shell. Plus styrene etc.  |

I agree, Chuck, that "N" SDP40 bash is one sweet build! Reading glasses won't cut it for me for that size....I gotta whip out the OptiVisor (with the 4X lens). If it starts getting serious, I can always dig out the stereo microscope for that real-l-l-ly "close in" work ;D

We have Power captain, well at least we have doors to get into the steam generator room to get the thing fired up. I have been working to complete the sides today along with aseembling the cab, subbase and nose. I still have lots of fine tunning to do but the shell, but at least I have all the major compoenets started so I can visualize how they will all fit togehter.
I will post photos later today of my progress!!
