Not really the first train, but the first caught on video. I use the train to test the track, as the cars all have Proto:87 wheels and Kadee #58 couplers. The engines will eventually get Proto:87 wheels as well.
Anyway, here you go....

Matt Looks good - are you really using P:87 wheelsets - or do you mean code 88 wheelsets? There's a big difference between the 2. Basically, the locos wouldn't run across a switch without derailing if the TO's were built to P87 standards, but weren't running P87 wheelsets - the back to back spacing is different, and the wheel flange is narrower. (regular wheels would climb the guard rails on the switches if the were P87) How long is the mailine run? Brian

Brian, they are proto wheels. Sadly they don't like larger frogs!!!! I quickly found out that ALL MY WHEELS will have to be changed before I run more. Thus you see the cars I have done and that is all I have done.
Sad to say it but I have a ton of work ahead of me. A good friend is a highly detailed modeler who also handlays track and when I showed him the Proto turnouts he said "that is a TON OF WORK".... I've got pictures, just not online yet.
I'm keeping Andy R. at Proto87 very busy!

Well, small setback so to speak. Last night I started the cork sanding process, as you know its messy, well around 10pm I fired up the shopvac and 30 seconds into it the lid blew up, broke and now I had millions of cork dust particles in the air. A HUGE MESS. So a late Walmart trip, new shopvac now I hope to get it finished today! once done, I can shoot the mainline run!!!

Looks good so far, I am waiting for the next installment. I have recently used the Central valley tie strips and was rather impresed with the whole process. I had never hand laid track and with just a track quage to check my work some barge cemern and a little patience I found you can make some museum quality track in no time. I can't tell from the video but have you already weathered the ties? I painted and weathered the ties even before I placed them on my module and that really helped me out. Also I placed a switch on my module, it is a dummy, but I have super detailed it with the Details West Frog and Central Valley kits its amazing how real you can make a switch look. Keep up the good work and post some more videos soon!
