Does any one have an idea of how or if one can build a custom model. The Athearn RTR just don't cut it. I seen a prototypical accurate one on Ebay a few months ago and was wondering if it could be custom build and how it would be gone about. Could you frankstein a inverter cabinet with doors onto a kato Ac4400cte union pacific model?

What are the problems with the Kato SP AC4400? I am not familiar with them.

I guess I was thinking of the new C44-9W. At one time I got a couple of undec shell from MB Klein. I would start with an undecorated if I could as Kato is hard to strip paint off of their models.

Looking at Kato website the CP model is correct on the inverter cabinet. More than likely the best way to go if you want a Kato. Details West used to make a detail kit for these and I think it had the panels for the inverter cabinet.

Yeah the CP model has the correct inverter cabniet but i was thinking of trying to cut it off and attach it to a Unpainted AC4400cte model. Details west makes a detail kit? Have any links?

Details West number 269 & 272. If I am correct you will not have to cut the inverter cabinet off the Kato shell. It separates with the cab from the shell. I would find a CP unit and strip the paint. While it does take some time and patience Kato paint can be removed. Maybe a week in 91% alcohol and some scrubbing with a stiff toothbrush a couple of time. Then a final with oven cleaner but do not let it stay on to long.

Thanks!Could I put them on a Union Pacific kato model? The CP model has low Number boards and SP has high. Can the details west doors go over the pre existing cab doors?
