Hello every one
This is my first post here so I'll try and limit the number or forum infractions as I learn the ropes.
There are a few review videos on these models already so I'll simply say that the sound, opwration and overall look of these models is great
So getting right into it, here's my plan with this model. My finished goal is to have a weathered and nicely detailed model for my roster. I will model it from the prototype. I plan to add details in a few areas that I feel will add to the overall look. I'm not looking for a model that will survive all scrutiny under a magnifying glass. Just one that looks great from 18" or so lol.
The model itself is very nicely detailed right out of the box but some things i think would go a long way would include the following.
New stanchions and hand rails Mu cables and air hoses
Beyond that I'd like opinions from you.
I have already disassembled this model and I can tell you first hand it's tricky. I would take your time especially with the cab. The class light tubes can be easily damaged. It is assembled in away that doesnt lend well to disassembly. I even called bowser to get some direction on this and I was told flat out not to do it and that he himself had broken every cab he attempted to remove. I managed to take it apart without braking it but I can see how it could be a problem. Just take your time, Is all I'd say.
I'd like to post some pictures, what's the way to make that happen?
Thanks for joining me on this build
Matt

To post pictures you need to upload them to a photo hosting site (like photobucket). Once uploaded, you will find something called a "direct link". Copy that link here and your photos will show up.
Can't wait to see your photos!

Off to a good start. Ill be interested in following this build.
The Details West metal MU hoses look much better than the plastic ones, you can form them over the plow, etc to make them look much more realistic.
BTW I like the faded logo on the Kato shell.

I ordered some of the parts I'll be using, hi-tech details diesel air hoses, .012 rod for the handrails. I have to wait for the wipers to come off of backorder.

Hey guys
The fuel tank was weathered using proto pics as a reference. I applied many thin washes of a very light grey until I got the shade I was looking for. The ends incorporate some light brown into that to resemble road dirt and dust.
I also added dirt splatter to the ends by running a brush over a tooth pick. If you get splatter marks that are out of scale simply touch then with water to wash them out.
I added pin washes of dark brown/black to help some of the details pop.
Fuel spill marks and rush were added after that.
I use cheap craft acrylics and aim weathering powders.

You mentioned the MU cable. CP didn't keep them on, as the AC power was about the first with dummy sockets. They has funny hangers, which attacked under the walkways. When they weren't needed, there was a set of brackets in the compressor room. This is where they were stowed.
