I have one and I have to say, it is awesome!
The only one issue I have is with the headlight and the decoder- when I run it by itself the headlight works fine- When I run it in consist, the headlight won't stay on. Very weird and annoying.
I've already reset the decoder once and it still does it.

Liking it so far...standard Bowser Quality, haven't run it yet as I prefer adding my own decoders, but pleased with the details and paint! Since you are installing your own decoders, have popped one open yet? I have a couple DC ones coming that I'm going to add Railpro to, and I'm curious about the wiring layout.

When run on there own everything worked fine but when the two FP9s were consisted the dithlights would not stay on. I use NCE's Power cab, and when the power cab upgrade was available a new chip set, I installed it and no more issues. I wonder if some of these issues are controller related, programming of controllers from the factory and not decoder related that are creating these problems. I'm not sure but....... Sorry for getting off topic. I ordered a few of these units, can't wait to get them.

I haven't received mine yet, but I sprung on one on Ebay last weekend. I ended up getting the 5751, which is all action red with no multimark. I didn't realize when I bought it, but Bowser lists this one as "no multimark and no rear number" which is a bit of a perplexing thing to me. I'm not a CP guru, but I've never seen an SD40-2 without a rear number, whether it black or white. Can someone verify this?

I think Lee meant "No multimark, No rear numberboards"

I think Lee meant "No multimark, No rear numberboards" Unfortunately, it is even shown in the artwork with nothing but candy striping on the rear. EDIT: I received it, and besides a hair line crack in the front portion of the cab it was a gorgeous engine. And thankfully there was a number in the rear, so I guess they didn't finish the explanation as iomalley mentioned. I have a replacement on the way, straight from Canada. How can one get more prototypical

Unless you use a Loksound decoder with the proper file, you won't be able to operate those cool class light colors, unless you decipher the individual circuit traces for each LED on the board and tap into them.

Playing with trying to reprogram a spare Rapido issue GMD 1 loksound 21 pin decoder.
If you do use a 21 pin loksound the "cleaner" install is to use a speaker with what they call a JST 2 pin connector...I am on the train right now, so can't see what speakers I have tried, but the only one I have does not have these connectors, looking at ebay, the mrc speakers use these...do I swallow my pride and buy something from MRC or does anyone know who sells these connectors? Atlas gold and silver locos use them, but I have not called them yet.
On another note...the shell comes off very easily, so far can't beat the quality of this thing. I bought the ONR green one too and seeing the class lights word is very cool!

I just saw a video review of these -2's and the light show alone is amazing! The class light changeover is so freakin cool.

I got mine in last week… just a drop-dead gorgeous model! Bowser nailed it in my opinion! Details are all amazing and look to be correct to the prototype (when it was fresh from the paint shop), and lighting is all perfect! The classlights are mind blowing and function perfectly! The sound is just as good too! This is my first model with ESU LokSound and I'm blown away by the crisp quality it has! All in all, it was well worth the wait and money (cost me $375 cdn). I have already made some changes, detail wise and decoder wise. One obvious change was painting the rear headlight completely black. I also lifted the dripstrips above the cab windows to give them the proper angles. On the decoder, I changed the horn CVs from its default Leslie RS3L sound to the more correct Nathan K3L #2. I'll definitely have more to post in the future as I use the locomotive more and get to start doing more work such as weathering.

Got a couple of the Bowser SD40-2's in CP, and they are great models. I just got the DCC ready versions. They run very nicely and a superbly detailed. And here they are on the club layout with some Canadian Wheat Board Grain Hoppers! Rick Jesionowski

A while later the only complaint I have is that while sitting in the box unused, I find the class lights often pop out of the shell, almost like they are under tension, this necessitated a trip back to Bowser for warranty as try as I might, I could not get them to stay tight in the shell. Bowser was great for a warranty claim I might add.
Then stupid me, I left them alone. I should have maybe dropped some ca on them from the inside once I received them back. One of the repaired locos is doing the same again.
Has anyone else experienced this?

I wouldn't use ca glue, it will eat the fiber. I haven't had this issue myself, if not mistaking they just slid into place. I did have to replace a set.

Use some Mocroscale canopy glue to hold them in. Great stuff with many uses.
