Looking at how the bracket is recessed into the walkways got me wondering. If I did it, I'd take a sharp pointed blade and scribe around the area, then shave down inside scribe lines.
Is this how you do it?

I never used the bracket, I just glue it right onto the bare plastic of the shell.
If you wanted to get fancy, you could always use some fine wire through the step with some eyebolts as a hinge and have it movable like the real thing. That's something I've always wanted to try...

The idea of using wire seems the best. Even without the eyebolts, run the wire just inside the vertical edges, and drill small holes right into the pilot face.
This way they might get bent, but will not break off while transporting it to the club. I just wish there were brass parts, just like the sun shades, which can be folded down.
Thanks for the replies,
