Well, yes I know the prices of these things have gone through the roof and landed on the moon, but...
Athearn has announced an SD39?!?!??!?!
I thought for sure they'd wait until the Springfield show, but maybe they're sick of showing up with a new model and more than half the crowd saying stuff like that sucks! why didn't ya...
I did it one year myself! I asked for the price they are why there aren't traction motor cables.
I did tell them great job on the GP50 though.
SO, is anyone else excited about this? If we all pool our money together over the next 3 months I think we can afford to get one or two... lol

It's nice to see a needed model be produced in plastic.
Something similar that bothers me, ScaleTrains finally announced their new products.. and there "new" locomotive is a turbine. Yea, sure it may be nice to collectors or something but, why does no one seem to want to produce something that modelers have been wanting. It took someone this long to come out with the SD39!

I was just about screaming like a teenage girl at a Beatles show when I saw these were coming. Not only do I want a few for my D&NO, but I was going to make a pair of Santa Fe units for my prototype fleet. I think it will be much more than a pair now.
First the SD40s in C&S paint with nearly correct trucks, and now this. If they bring back the SD9, I might lose control of my bodily functions!

In addition to the SD9, I'd like to see Athearn get back into the GE U-Boat business. It seems like I can't swing a dead cat without hitting a Dash-something, but if you want a U30C, you might as well buy a 3D printer and good luck!
It feels like being an N scaler back in the late 80s or early 90s. ANYTHING decent from manufacturers was a Godsend.

SD39, eh. Wake me up when they pull an SDP40 out... Well, yes I know the prices of these things have gone through the roof and landed on the moon Pluto, but... Fixed Hornby and Korea Brass both announced U25Cs within a few weeks of me getting the parts together to make a better one using the old Rivarossi model. Maybe I should start a kitbash...

Well ain't you guys glad that you're not a N Scaler in the 70's!!! I would LOVE to see Scale Trains come out with blue box style SD9, some Geeps, and a couple of U-Boats, but with scale width hoods!!! They JUST came out with a WIDE range of stuff, from a $13.95 BB style Evans Boxcar, a $35.99 21,000 gal tank (more detailed), to a $800.00 "Big Blow" UP Turbine - in a Leather case!! Two of the guys used to work for Athearn, and are looking to bring back some basic kits ...... So THEY would be the ones to bug, for locomotives, made for Detailers! Just Sayin'....

I do like to see a new player in the game, competition is always good (of course there are limits to this statement). But, I think instead of making some one off model from the 50s (60s?) that only UP had, they should've went around the model railroad forums (here, atlas rescue, many others) and gotten polls on the demand for units that haven't been made in plastic yet. Just like SD39Dash2 said, do something in the U-boats, or even a super 7! I'd buy a set of super 7s (4 axles) in a heart beat.

Actually, Shane, the owner, was all over the Atlas Rescue forum.... He never made it here though. He had mentioned really high end stuff, but also a return to basic, inexpensive kits. They're even thinking about 70's and 80's vehicles, particularly cars! Except for the cast resin solid blobs, that's a market that nobody else is tapping into. I'm sticking with what could be feasible... blue box type road switchers (GAWD, not ANOTHER GP38-2!!!), but with slightly better drive and scale width hoods and closed pilots. We could use some INEXPENSIVE Geeps, Cadillacs and U-Boats to detail !!

Yeah early GPs, switchers and early GE stuff. Or more/anything from Baldwin, Fairbanks Morse, etc. Nthing the manufacturers are coming out with lately really gets my blood going.

I agree. A large portion of the EMD scheme has been done. Now we need more of the GE series. Like I mentioned earlier, a super 7 4axle would be awesome. I'd buy a set for my freelance in a heart beat. A B32-8 (12cyl) would be really nice to.

It seems clear that older GE, Baldwin, FM are missing from the market.... I have an issue pertaining to that. I like my sound TOO. One GE I would want is a U-18B (8 cylinder). I would also want decoder guys to come up with a good "chugging" kind of 8 cyl GE sound... Or a GOOD FM "boxer" engine sound. We should write to Shane at Scale Trains.com, and let him know. Let him know that we are a group of guys, frustrated with the fact that we're forced to scour the used market, because nearly nothing new anymore, suits our needs! That we want to BUILD the models we want, from an INEXPENSIVE start, not simply open a $300+ box and plop it on the rails!

We already have B40-8s from two manufactures. The hardest part with making a B32-8 is the frame... the wheel base is different. Otherwise its basically a shortened B40-8.

B32-8 of BN heritage is not even close to a shortened 8-40b cab has a unique round roof and a lot of details differing from the later-8 line.
Now the NS 8-32B's look like shortened 8-40's
