Definitely early EMD pan top fans. (I downloaded the largest size available for the image you had and zoomed in.)
Now… Finding them is another matter. To my knowledge, nobody makes these particular fans in HO scale. So, Q fans would be the next closest-looking option available.
Good luck, this looks like an interesting project!

Thanks for confirming the type sgoti. I know there's a few Athearn models that sport pan tops but whether they sell them as spares I'm not sure. I'll look into it.

Thanks for Atlas tip. I've found them on their site. They're the Large fan grille, fan and base right form the 24/26?

Is it just me or does anyone else think that the radiator fan spacing is more akin to a gp38-2 than a original gp38? Looking at getting a Plano rad cover as I'm doing what the prototype did and starting with a GP40. Thanks Edit: Then again I see this photo and think there's wider spacing more like the straight 38?!? www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1792092

Spaced more like a GP35, without the center 36" fan?? Just throwing that out.... that would be the same fan spacing as a SD38P.
