For a while now I've wanted to build a steel flanger. CN had a bunch of these built in the late 1980's and some exist to this day. There were three in the maritimes, one on the NBEC, one on the CFMG and a third on the CBCNS. They were stored at Campbellton, NB, New Richmond, PQ and Stellerton, NS, respectfully. I've had the opportunity to photograph two of the three now, as the NBEC one was scrapped. These are a really neat car and were made from cut down 40' boxcars. I started with a Branchline Boxcar kit, removing a layer off the top of the car, adding the roof back on and plating over the doors. At this point, I'm stalled out waiting for a cupola to arrive. I stuck one off of an Athabasca CN caboose on as a stand-in for the time being.

Ha, you even used a maple leaf logo boxcar for starters, just like PSC would have done! Bravo!

Just by coincidence, not by necessity. I never thought of that though!

Cupola has arrived from Shapeways. Depending on the weather, I should be able to finish this one off in the next week or so.

Great project. Question why two smoke stacks? A bot belly stove on each end?

WOW! Nice work, I love the CN transfer cabooses as well. They are getting very hard to find.

VERY impressive!! I love that almost the WHOLE train was BUILT - and not merely taken out of an expensive RTR box!! ~ Carmine
