Thanks Nick. I'm almost through with the clean up on the bottom. including removing the hopper bottoms. I hope the IM gates will work. I reshaped the ends to much closer to prototype.
Regards, Bobby

Regards, Bobby Man, I'll tell ya...I just recently built an Intermountain Cylindrical Hopper kit and the bottom bay detail was non-existent. Not to mention, the bottom gates were WAY off. I had a lot of scratching to do. Hopefully your kit is better off.

Once again I apologize for not knowing how to up load photos. I've added two photos that show the radius, gussets and bolsters that I added. I drilled and fitted the end grabs and steps. Compare the photo of the car without the new parts and you'll see the difference it makes. Use the link in the first post. I'm waiting on 40 detail photos that a fellow modeler is sending me, then I'll start making progress.
Thanks, Bobby

I've added 6 more progress photos. I wasn't satisfied with the shape of the ends. To change the shape, I had to rip out the bulkheads and file the inside of the body. This allowed me to move the bulkheads back. The reshaped ends are much closer to the prototype. I liked the angle of the new ribs much better too. I wasn't happy with the top, so I replaced it. There are no shakers, so I scratched my own. Each one is comprised of 11 parts. The brake cylinder is made up of 4 brands. The ABDW valve is another part that's weak. The best looking one is the one from the original IM cylindrical hopper kit. The middle is not so good, so I used the middle from a DW valve. The hatch covers are modified IM parts. Thanks for looking.
Regards, Bobby

Bobby, is there going to be anything left of the original car by the time you are finished? Looks great so far!

The B end is about finished, brake gear and plumbing that is. I haven't done the retainer valve because it's mounted on the end cage. Thanks for looking.

I built the discharge gates using the gates from a NARC Canadian cylindrical hopper donated for the project by Darrell Sawyer. These were preproduction gates with brass capstans. Notice the gears and gear tracks. Darrell tells me if enough people ask, they might offer them as a detail part. The gates were a bit small, so I transferred the details to styrene to inlarge them. The slack adjuster is styrene rod and ends from the Tichy freight car detail kit.
Thanks, Bobby

I added the hatches, latches and hinges as the new title says. All of those tiny parts to cut and glue.
