Hi
I am wondering if anyone has close up shots of early phase GP35 radiator grilles they might post? I'm trying to see if an S scale roofwalk etch is suitable for a radiator grille for a TT GP35 project.
Googled the topic and there does not seem to be many prototype shots, but many of models, which aren't always right!
Regards
Ben

Ben Ben, I have some good, close up photos of a Ph1C radiator grill taken on a Southern GP35 2715. Bob

Here is AA 381 which I believe is a phIb unit and last is a ex SOU unit - not exactly sure what phase - maybe a ph1c Regards, Brian

Thank you. A bit of variation there. I wonder how they line up with the 'phases' which I think are a railfan researcher concept.

Sorry, I had to change my profile as I find Proboards incredibly confusing with their split between overall and forum specific profiles, and ridiculous 'Captcha' technology which seems to fail half the time. What a mess.

I am also wondering whether the inertial air filters behind the cab of GP35s varied at all.
If anyone has a shot or two of various versions, probably phase I units area of most interest, I would be interested to see, particularly the pattern of the mesh.

The early ones ph1a, had shorter grills than what is on any model, but otherwise they were same on the rest, til maybe ph2, which is what the MTH model is supposed to be.

Thanks Brian
When you say shorter, how long were they? I assume they had the same pattern of mesh, then ? That is, very fine rectangular mesh running horizontally?

When I look at shots of GP35 roofs, I see the smaller 36" fan differs. On some units it's like a 48" fan, with a pronounced lip, but with a squarer pattern to the circular mesh. This is depicted on page 137 of Bob Hayden's Model Railroader Cyclopedia Vol 2 DIESEL LOCOMOTIVES. Also as seen here on this UP unit: www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=365030&nseq=402And on others, like the SOU unit here, it looks more like a fan from an F7 or GP7 rising from flush with the roof with a domed circle at the centre. I'm wondering whether this variation went with the phase of the unit, or was random thing depending on what EMD had in their box of traded in parts, or a railroad replacement? www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=461567&nseq=157Regards Ben Scanlon London, UK
