We had a thread about locomotive models which are not made, but might be marketable. How about freight cars?
One which I see frequently is the aluminum cylindrical covered hoppers for sodium chlorate. These cars go to the paper mills frequently. They are common here in NY, and QC, due to many paper mills.
Another choice would be a PC&F 50' exterior post, flat roof boxcar. B&M had a large fleet, as did Berlin Mills Railway. The BMS cars are now on St. Lawrence and Atlantic. CRLE has some too, although theirs are plug door.
Any others?

A less expensive 63' Thrall centerbeam. Exactrail at $70 a piece and 0 discount is too rich for me (I buy most of my locos for less)

It's pretty inexpensive to cut down the Walthers car, which I did just in time for Exactrail to announce theirs. Dangit.

I did the same thing after a failed attempt to rebuild a basketcase Front Range car: There are tons of the old McKean cars on ebay right now. Granted, they are basically the same kit as the Front Range car I had so much trouble with, but perhaps you may have better luck than me. If I need any more of these, I'll either pony up the dough for the Exactrail car or cut up another Walthers car. As far as other needed cars are concerned, a Bethlehem 4000 cf triple hopper in BN would be nice. I'd also like to see PS/Trinity and clone four bay ribside pellet hoppers, carbon black cars of all varieties and a PS 4785, which is the car previously offered by Rail Yard. I'm not too knowledgeable on types, but a variety of autoracks from the 70s and 80s during the transition from open side to completely enclosed would be great.

Here is a picture of the PC&F boxcar I mentioned. They have a flat roof, and pronounced corner posts. www.railcarphotos.com/PhotoDetails.php?PhotoID=75995I haven't done CAD in years, but wonder about doing these in 3D print, or resin. This would sell like hotcakes to anyone doing B&M.

That's exactly the same thing that got me started down the path. Got frustrated with an undec Front Range kit. Actually used it as a test bed for painting techniques.
The FRP car:
The Walthers car:
The FRP car needs someone who wants to finish it out...don't really have room for 2 WP cars when the whole fleet was, like, ten.
I picked WP so that no one would think I did a nice job assembling the FRP car, and now people will just think I did a nice job weathering the Exactrail car. Can't win.

But in answer to the original question, I want transition-era tank cars and boxes in 60's and 70's era paint schemes, plus more 60's-era cars.
40-foot tanks with frames were still common in the 70s and 80s, but you can't find a model of one in food-grade service like corn syrup or vegetable oil.
There's also a particular weakness in those distinctive IC and ICG box cars.
More grain hoppers or coal hoppers are about the last thing I have any need of.

When I was a teen, I used to hang out with the local B&M crew, and remember the old tanks. Some still had plain journals. When I was working on BNSF, they used to buy fuel where it was cheapest. It was shipped in company tank cars to other locations. Some of these still had full center sills.this was in the late 1990s.
Swap meets are a good place to find some 1960s era equipment. Many of the old Athearn and Roundhouse kits come to mind. They have the paint schemes of the era. I know the details aren't like today, but look at what has been done here with some train set cars.

I don't know what type this is but I'd like someone to manufacture these boxcars: I have searched and searched and haven"t turned up a model of it.

Go to my link about the B&M cars. That site has pictures and information about the car. The reporting marks can be cross referenced.

There's also a particular weakness in those distinctive IC and ICG box cars.
That can be easily remedied with paint and decals, Dan Kohlberg offers an extensive line of IC, GM&O and ICG Decals. Here are a couple of cars I have done:
Hi Tech Models 40' PS Hi-Cube Boxcar Kit painted with Scalecoat II IC Orange Paint and lettered with Dan Kohlberg Decals.
Intermountain PS 60' Boxcar Kit, painted with Scalecoat II IC Orange and lettered with Dan Kohlberg Decals
Intermountain PS 50' Boxcar, substituted a 10' YSD, painted with Scalecoat II IC Orange and lettered with Herald King Decals.
The car I want is a FGE RBL with offset 12' Door, the DT&I had over a 100 they got from the PC and the WP had them also.

Any of the half dozen or so types of DSDX bunkerless insulated boxcars that the Milwaukee Road used on the beer line Otherwise I've got a lot of kitbashing in front of me.

ANY 40' boxcars, rebuilt style, WITHOUT roofwalks and with shortened ladders... For us 1970's guys. We get no love!!
While we're at it, 1970's Automobiles!!! (NOT solid resin!). There are TWO that I know of... and they're both Dodge Monacos. Although Atlas did briefly sell an overpriced Ford Fairmont!

Using Branchline or Intermountain kits, they are really easy!
Branchline kit used to replicate the Evans Rebuilds of old RDG, NYC etc. cars that were leased to the Rock Island in the late 60's with new 8' Doors, reinforced side sills, sans roofwalk and cutdown ladders. Painted with darkened Floquil PC Green and lettered with Mask Island Decals.
Intermountain PS1 kit, sans roofwalk, cutdown ladders. The SLSF rebuilt their 1950's era PS1's and repainted and renumbered them. Painted with Scalecoat II Boxcar red and lettered with Oddballs decals.
The brake wheels did not have to be moved down as long as car was marked and a grab installed on the roof.
