What does the slight circular indentation represent on the Atlas GP38/40 fuel tank? Some of the prototype photos I have been looking at dont appear to have the indentation on both sides. The Atlas part has it on both sides. Could be in the photo though. Hard to see on that black.

This is a fuel guage. It is optional equipment. Some roads and even some orders do not have it and I have even seen it on one side of a loco and not the other. Just a variation between units the more you research the less everything looks alike. For example I was watching a GreenFrog Pokey video and every Dash 9 unit had a knuckle basket on the conductor side but in looking at pics I see that most do not have them now.
