Hi all, I haven't posted here since 2012 when I said I was getting back into the hobby. Well that attempt fell through but I'm back again and I'd like to try modeling this SW1200 of the Crab Orchard & Egyptian RR. I've got the Proto 2000 kit to start from. I've been looking through all the pics over at rrpicturearchives.net and I see there have been a few minor changes over the years, but a few details have been consistent. I'm trying to narrow down whether these parts are commercially available, or I'll have to try to scratch build them. So, let's start with the front...I've attached a pic with 3 areas highlights. Please help me out if my terminology is wrong. Part #1: Some sort of light Part #2: Lift rings? Are there detail parts to match these? Part #3: MU Stand Link to original photo: COER 1161-Adam

Not having a side shot to look at, Part 1 looks like Cal scale EL RS marker lights (with the bottoms cut off) 190-433 Part 2 is Details Assoc 229-1105 Part 3 is included in Minatures by Eric kit K4 or K5, but you can make one, they're not hard.

Thanks for the information. I'll add those to the list.

If you have the Proto 2000 SW undec kit, the MU plugs and stand (#3) should be included as part of the MU option. If you look underneath the frame in that area, there's a dimple where you drill it out.

The kit I have is pre-decorated so I'll be stripping the paint at some point. It was the least expensive NIB kit I could find on eBay. So, moving on with the parts list I've marked up another photo. Parts 4-9. Part 4: Pilot beam. Would Details West BP-193 work if I modified it? Or should I try to construct it from styrene? Part 5: Is there a commercial part that matches the buffer plate? It doesn't seem like it would be hard to build. Part 6: Bend a custom grab bar to size. Part 7: Replace kits grabs with metal. Part 8: Install Smokey Valley or equal metal stanchions. EMD type? Part 9: Modify kit with styrene to match COER 1161. I also think the steps of 1161 are different from the kits, but I may overlook this difference since I'm not sure I want to try to replace the steps. Potential Parts List Part 1: Cal scale EL RS marker lights (with the bottoms cut off) 190-433 Part 2: Details Assoc 229-1105 Part 3: Minatures by Eric kit K4 or K5, or make my own. Thanks for looking.

Can anyone tell me which Smokey Valley stanchions I'd need to order for this project? Thanks!
