Converting a pair of Weaver O scale GP38-2's into GP40's. Start of the project removing old fans and DB with placement of new fans. Had to extend the fuel tanks. Cut them in half and extended each side with a 1/2" styrene dowel to new length. Wrapped stretched tanks with a few layers of .010 flat styrene. Used the original mounting holes in the chassis to mark the new locations for the extended tank. Drilled out the markings with my drill press and squared up the holes with a flat file. Photo showing construction to date with both units getting the new fans and dynamic brakes. The DB grills were modified and no longer available CLW brass castings I made RTV molds from and cast with 2 part resin. Shot also shows the new extended fuel tanks fitted to the chassis. Awaiting additional parts to complete the detailing.

NICE! I've always been fascinated with the larger scales. I didn't know there was even an O scale still had a detail parts market. That's great!!

You're getting my wheels turning (which always scares the wife!!) I won't threadjack, but I've had a K-Line "G scale", "GP"... It's a TERRIBLE model !! I may be 1/34 scale... and looks like a GP18/20/24 (IT doesn't know!!). It's roughly 7 feet short of most known prototypes. It DOES, have 2 motors, and actual "tread" machined into the nickel silver tires - this thing will pull a HOUSE!!! In fact, a car once derailed and got hung... and the big mystery Geep spun for about 45 seconds before anyone noticed... When we went to pick up the unit, she had DUG FOUR HOLES in the rails - just like a REAL one would do!!!! So your post inspires me to want to turn this BEAST into SOMETHING resembling a real locomotive!! And your build IS truly awesome!! Carmine
