Anybody have any luck ordering directly from Intermountain??
I have no local retailer, and mail order is my only option.
I see they have the FP-7 undecorated body shell kit listed that I need for my FL-9 conversion project, and would like to order one.

Go with Rob at DCCTrain.com I've used him for a couple years, several of my Ops guys (like RedP) also have started using him. Great prices, gets the stuff prompt and easy to deal with. You can go to the website and get the phone number. I highly suggest using him..... I get all my engines and that stuff via Rob and he is a strong DCC source also. Don't use the email link on the website, that goes to another source. If you want, PM me and I will give you his email addy that way.

You may want to wait a bit. They show a FP-9 unit. Which would be a better place to start the FL-9. I asked about ordering a few parts from them. ( F - Unit Parts) They wouldnt sell me any parts but Sent me a couple parts trees for ( FREE) !!! I got F-unit side steps, Handrails, Pilot ( Correct for the FL-9) Numberboards & other parts. If you have the Atlas FP-7s there are at least 5 seprate bodies. The Black Bodies ( ROCO) and the Light Gray. The Gray bodies can be had with a 48" D/B fan or W/O fan & W & W/O Mars light. the gray bodies have the corect Pilot on it already. But you still need to replace the side pannels to get it done. I Called ATHEARN about getting there FP-9/7 body. They told me to contact Paul about the body as he will be doing the bodies. Not them. Jim Evans

Thanks for the information. I contacted them and as soon as I save up the money, allyou need to do is call and they will send them to me, no problem.
I would never even consider using the old Atlas FP-7/9 model. Of course I did about 25 years ago, bot at the time that's all that was available.
I could never see why no plastic body shells have ever been done for the FL-9. Its the only F-unit not to be done in plastic. All of the resin ones offered were not too good. They were based on either the old Atlas FP-7/9 or stretched Athearn F-7.
I know there were many detail variations (especially later in their lives once Amtrak and Metro-North got a hold of them), but I'd be happy with a basic plastic body shell from which to work......that is my plan for the unit I plan on casting up.
