For a first attempt that's excellent, actually just excellent full stop.

Thanks... I think?..lol.
I like looking off pics because sometimes free lancing a weathered detail project can result in a mess or not that wow that looks real effect...
The trucks is what gets me to question if they look right or not

The trucks is what gets me to question if they look right or not First of all...good first go at weathering! Did you use a proto pic? Second, I think you're right about the trucks needing more work. In most photos I've seen of the old grease filled box journals they are usually almost covered in black grease residue...and so are the wheels. So, you need to blacken them up a bit. Post more pics if you do more to the model.

No pic...I freelanced this one
You are exactly right..I should have used Gary's browns and rust colors and used some black past paint I got to bring out the Grease look on the wheels and truck
Don't worry I'll post more so new guys who never weathered or used an air brush can see its not that hard... Other than matching a proto type pic to the exact rusty bolt..

The old oil bearing trucks should have a greasy appearance as the grease got thrown all over the place. So there shouldn't be any rust around them. Just a dusty look from any dirt that may be stuck to the grease. The more modern roller bearing trucks should be mostly rust as the oil in the bearings rarely leaks.

No pic...I freelanced this one. Other than matching a proto type pic to the exact rusty bolt.. That's cool but that's not what I meant. You don't have to try and match the weathering on a proto exactly. However, using proto pics as a reference will show you where to place and what to place and what colors to use and make it look realistic. Since you are attempting to weather...realism is what you're after. Not knowing how a proto really weathers and attempting to weather a model would be like not knowing where the horn on an engine goes but gluing it on somewhere just because you know engines have them. For instance, if you had used a reference photo you would have known about the truck issues. Nonetheless, not bustin balls, I think you did a real good job for your first weathering attempt and not using a reference pic. Now, get to work on more so we can see'em!

The Geep looks really good. Don't worry if you keep an eye out you will find another one and most likely when you least expect it.
Keep up the good work.

I do know how you feel though. I have never forgiven myself for selling my last and best out of all the Dodge Chargers I owned over 25 years ago and if I could get it back I would take it in a heart beat because you cant even begin to come close to one in the condition it was in now days for what I paid for it. Thank God for diecast because I know unless a big bucket of money falls in my lap I will not own another 70 Charger.
Keep hitting the train shows and Ebay and hopefully you will find another one that you can make even better than the first.
